Folks who have been following the netbook space might remember the name CherryPal. I don’t really expect it to resonate with anybody else. But CherryPal was one of the first companies to release a cheap netbook running Google Android, as well as cheap Linux netbooks. Now the company is getting into the tablet space, with the launch of the CherryPad, a 7 inch Android tablet.

The machine features an 800MHz processor, an 800 x 480 pixel resistive touchscreen display, a G-sensor, 2GB of storage, 256MB of RAM, 802.11b/g/ WiFi and a microSD card reader. The tablet also has a USB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and built in speakers and a microphone. It has a 3200mAh battery.

The CherryPad weighs 1.1 pounds and CherryPal says it has an aluminum case, which sets it apart from many of the other cheap tablets on the market which have plastic cases.

You can pick one up for $188 plus shipping.

  1. The CherryPad site claims that “The CherryPad comes with full access to the Android Market”. Really? Without 3G?

    1. A number of Chinese tablet makers have managed to sneak it on their devices… I suspect they can get away with it until Google notices and takes steps to block it — as happened with the Augen GenTouch78.

  2. I’m actually pretty fond of what Cherrypal. However, I’m curious to know if their 800mhz processor is a 800mhz processor in the traditional sense, or if it represent an all-too-common suspect accounting process of adding up two 400mhz processing units, one of which is really the CPU and the other of which is there to accelerate functions like graphics and video.

    1. And not all 800MHz processors are created equal — not by a long shot. I was reluctant to include that detail at all, but I had so few details to go on I figured I’d throw most of them out there and see what sticks. 🙂
