The ViewPad 7 isn’t the only new tablet from ViewSonic. The folks at TouchMeMobile got to spend a little time with the new ViewSonic ViewPad 100 today. It’s a tablet with a 10.1 inch display which can dual boot Windows 7 and Google Android 1.6.

The tablet looks like a machine with its foot in two worlds. On the right side o the display you can see Android buttons including the Home and Back buttons. But while most Android tablets have ARM-based processors, this model comes with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor. That’s because you need an x86 chip to run Windows 7.

The tablet has a capacitive multitouch display, 1GB of RAM and a 16GB Solid State Disk for storage. There’s an integrated UMTS/HSDPA modem, 1.3MP webcam, and 2 USB ports. There’s also a mini VGA output.

TouchMeMobile’s Andrzej Tokarski says WIndows seems pretty responsive on the tablet, but I’m going to reserve judgment until we’ve seen some more extensive tests. Other tablets I’ve tested with Intel Atom processors have tended to feel a little sluggish, although that could be due to an operating system that’s not really designed for touch-only input.

You can find more photos at TouchMeMobile, and check out the hands-on video after the break.

  1. Hmm, so it’s got a intel 3150 for driving the display? Umm… Meh. Thanks viewsonic… Still not really all that interested in windows and touch only. And dual booting into Android 1.6 doesn’t thrill me in general, especially with this hardware which seems ill matched to that job as well… At least it has a SD slot, you’re going to need it with a scant 16gb of built in storage and Windows 7 the space hog on there along with Android 1.6…

    1. You can see the SD Card slot opening in the video. I don’t know if he mentions it, I’m at work and can’t listen to the thing, but you can see it.
