HTC Evo 4G smartphone

There’ve been rumors going around for a little while that smartphone maker HTC wants in on the tablet game, and it makes sense since pretty much every consumer electronics company in the known universe appears to be bringing a tablet to market in the next year or so. Today Digitimes is adding fuel to the fire with a report that HTC has tapped Taiwan’s Pegatron to build the device.

According to the report, which I’d take with a grain of salt for now, the tablet will feture a 1280 x 720 pixel multitouch display, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip, a 32GB solid state drive and 2GB of RAM as well as WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Oh yeah, and the tablet will run Google Android.

With 2GB of RAM, an HD display, and Tegra chip, this would be one of the most powerful tablets around — if those specs are actually correct. Digitimes also suggests that the tablet could carry a rather steep price tag of about $790, but that price would likely be lower once the telephone companies are done subsidizing the tablet and offering it bundled with two year service contracts.

  1. That looks like it has a 4″ display. As I said before I don’t think what amounts too an extra-large cellphone is really a tablet. That would be like calling a Post-it® note a ‘sheet of paper’.

    1. That’s because it’s a photo of the HTC Evo. We don’t actually have any pictures of the new tablet yet. 🙂

Sorry, I probably should have added a caption.

      1. ROFL You got me! I have no clue what an Evo looks like…as you can tell.
