HTC and Motorola are both rumored to be working on slate computers, but we haven’t heard many details about the hardware so far. Now DigiTimes reports that both companies have placed orders for NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset.
The Tegra 2 chip is a dual core processor with a graphics core capable of handling 3D video acceleration and HD video playback.
This would be a pretty big win for NVIDIA, which is pushing its Tegra chips hard, but which to date hasn’t signed a lot of big name customers.
According to DigiTimes, Asus will also ship a device with a Tegra processor — something we’d heard about a while back, but it’s always nice to receive confirmation… or rumor and speculation, as the case may be.
Neither HTC nor Motorola have publicly stated that they plan to build tablets at all, let alone models with NVIDIA chips, so I’m taking today’s report with the usual grain of salt… although it certainly doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.
