The other day Dell CEO Michael Dell teased us with a brief glimpse at a new 7 inch tablet that looks like it could be a bit more than just a larger version of the Dell Streak 5 inch Android tablet. While the new model will also run Android, the larger display looks like it might have a higher resolution and it’s not yet clear whether it will have two cameras. It’s also not yet clear whether the tablet, like the Streak, will be able to make phone calls — although I’d be surprised if it didn’t at least have a 3G modem for mobile broadband data connections.

Engadget has snagged a video of Dell showing off a prototype at a recent event, and they spent a bit of time “enhancing” a few screengrabs so we can get a better look at the tablet.

Unfortunately all we can tell is that there’s a volume rocker, a headphone jack, and a few other buttons on the sides, as well as your usual Android buttons on the front for navigating through Google’s mobile operating system.

It also looks like Dell had a bit of trouble with the capacitive touchscreen during his demo. When he tried to scroll through a page, he had to swipe his finger repeatedly before anything happened. You can check it out at the 1:27 point in the video below.

  1. Hi Brad. You may want to post a correction to your story.
He didn’t have to swipe repeatedly; he went through 3 slides that were almost exactly identical. See for instance how the red part of the pie chart moves around.

      1. My suspicion is that this little demo wasn’t really planned at all – really, all they were going to show was swiping through a few slides? They could have at least wiped the fingerprints off.

  2. I would totally get this if it ends up being voice-capable! Of course, we’re still waiting for the Streak here in the GWN (cannot believe that friggin’ Australia is getting it first), so who knows when Michael will finally think of his northern neighbors. Then again, maybe Steve-o will put voice on his rumoured 7-inch iPad . . .
