Pioneer Computers has introduced a new 11.6 inch tablet in Australia. As Netbook News.de points out, it looks like the Pioneer DreamBook ePad L11 may be a rebranded version of the same hardware found in the German WeTab slate computer. But the main difference is that the ePad L11 runs Windows 7 instead of Linux.

The tablet features a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and both Intel GMA 3150 graphics and NVIDIA ION graphics for handling HD video and 3D graphics acceleration, among other tasks.

The Pioneer DreamBook ePad L11 has 2GB of memory and is available with a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB solid state disk. The 11.6 inch capacitive touchscreen display has a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and support multitouch input. It also features 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and optional 3G and GPS modules.

You also get 2 USB ports, an SDHC card slot, SIM card slot, and mini-HDMI port. The tablet has a 2 cell, 4800mAh battery, which Pioneer says should be good for up to 6 hours of run time. It measures 11.6″ x 7.7″ x 0.6″ and weighs about 2.1 pounds.

The tablet ships with Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate. Pricing starts at $699 Australian, which is about $589 US.

    I have send the folks over at Pioneer an E-mail, but perhaps here some people can answer some questions as well. This is what I’ve sent to them:

    “Hello,

    I have seen your DreamBook ePad L11 HD on the internet and I think it is a very nice device!

    However, I still have some questions:
    -I live in the Netherlands; can I order online and have the device shipped to the Netherlands? (Obviously I understand any pickup&return warranty will not be applicable to me!)
    -I saw an option for a 64GB SSD, but I don’t see that option when configuring the device. Is it possible to order the device with a 64GB SSD?
    -Is it possible to replace the SSD myself? Or have a local computer store specialist do it? What I’m looking for is a possibility to place a 128GB (or even larger) SSD later on when they are a little bit cheaper.
    -Where can I verify that the 3G option will work in the Netherlands as well?
    -I saw there is an “OMTP jack”. Can you tell me a little bit more about that? I want to mount the device in the car. When I am at the office I want to take it out and use it in the office. In the office I have a regular 3.5 jack. In the car I also have a regular 3.5 jack connected to the car radio aux input. Will that still work? (This really is important as it is a show stopper if it is not possible.)
    -Will the power adapter work on the Dutch 230V power outlets?
    -Is there already a docking feature/port bay available? I saw a “26 pin connector” being mentioned; is that some sort of standard to which I can connect different sorts of port bays?
    -How is the concept carrying case with integrated keyboard coming along? Looks really nice!

        However, I have been looking at the EXOPC. And since I am going to be on vacation in Canada as of the 7th of september that is the device I will be buying!

  2. There’s a lot on offer with this tablet but I would of thought that going for a free open source linux OS rather Windows 7 would have enabled Pioneer Computers to sell it for less than the Apple iPad, rather than AU$50 more.

    Strangely, you can choose Ubuntu but the price remains at $699.

      The price is $699 ONLY if you choose Ubuntu. The main article was incorrect, this unit is not advertised as “coming with Windows”. It says it “supports Windows”.

      The “Specifications” say: “Support OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium or above”

      When you look into it further on the pricing page, the base price is $699, but look at the “Microsoft Windows” and “Operating System Opetions” sections:

      Any option for Windows involves an additional cost, ranging from +$39 for Windows XP Home, +$129 for Windows 7 Home through to +$249 for Windows 7 Ultimate.

      Ubuntu is the only OS option that you can choose for no additional cost. You can only get an Ubuntu machine for just $699.
