The Apple iPad has a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel processor which is a pretty decent size for reading eBooks and web pages and watching videos. But it turns out the iPad may not be a one-size-fits-all device. DigiTimes reports that Apple is preparing to launch a second-generation iPad which will be available with 5.6 ich or 7 inch OLED displays.

The article cites sources at computer component makers who should be in a position to know if Apple is buying up a lot of OLED displays. But I’d take this news with a grain of salt for now.

As long as we’re rumor-mongering though, DigiTimes says the new devices could be available as soon as the fourth quarter of 2010, and that Apple will continue selling 9.7 inch iPad models, but there could be some slight changes in the design. The new smaller models will reportedly be aimed primarily at the eBook reader space.

  1. This is neat news. I currently have the iPad right now. I don’t have any complaints nor have I experienced anything going wrong with it. I have had a great experience since day one with it. My boyfriend is the one who actually purchased it for me after he knew that I got a bunch of titles from booksonboard.com, and also, he has seen that I’ve been reading books on my screen laptop lately–and I have to say, it is difficult lugging your laptop everywhere with you, so he purchased the iPad for me, and I really like it.
