Update: Amazon giveth and Amazon taketh away. The product page has been removed. Either it was posted in error, or Amazon decided it didn’t want to take pre-orders for a product that might not ship until the holiday season or later… or never.

Well that’s interesting. Just last week I received confirmation from Acer that the company had “no plans” to launch the Acer Aspire One 532g netbook with next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics in the immediate future. While the company didn’t rule out a launch later this year, one thing I didn’t expect to see this week was a pre-order page for the mini-laptop at Amazon.

But lo and behold, Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the netbook for just $399.99.

There’s absolutely no word on a ship date, but as Netbooked points out, there’s probably no harm in placing a pre-order. Amazon won’t bill you until the laptop actually ships… if it ever does.

The Acer Aspire One 532g is expected to have a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, and both integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics and discrete NVIDIA ION second generation graphics, enabling 1080p HD video playback and GPU acceleration for Adobe Flash video.

  1. OK, wait. Sorry to multiple-post but here’s the deal. I just got off the phone with TigerDirect’s sales people. Yes, they have it on their site. (And no, Acer doesn’t have it on its US site.) It says if ordered, would ship in 7-21 days. I asked the TigerDirect people about this, as I’m a little confused on whether it’s for reals or whether it’s a mistake like Amazon’s, seeing as how Acer officially said it’s a no-go, and TigerDirect told me that a ship-out time of 1-3 weeks typically indicates it’s a third-party drop-ship type of scenario, and that it means they don’t actually have it in their warehouses or anything. So maybe I’ll wait to open my 521 when it arrives, in case I need to ship it back after all so’s I can get a 532g? But maybe I’ll wait to get a RMA, in case TigerDirect only made a slip-up. And yeah, I know, this post is totally tl;dr.

    1. For what its worth, I spoke with an Acer rep last night and she told me the
company is definitely no bringing his model to market yet. It’s likely this,
like the amazon listing is a mistake.

      1. Whew, well that’s a relief to finally, definitely just know what’s up. I guess I can stop spinning my emotional yo-yo around the place now. +1 internets to you.

  2. Well, apparently (I read it on another tech blog, and confirmed that the seller has the page up still) TigerDirect has an order page for it. It’s got a 1280×720 LCD and Windows 7 Home Premium, and it’s only fifty bucks more than the 521 I already paid for and have en-route to me. So, I guess I’m like:

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…

  3. Dude good thing. I’d been waiting forever for this to come out, so when I heard the cancellation news, I turned right around and ordered a 521 instead, it’s the AMD model with ATI HD 4225 w/ 300-something MB VRAM, so it’s not bad, but if they were doing a double-about-turn and releasing it after all, AFTER I’d ordered the 521 instead, I’d be like..
    “FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU”
