The Sony Vaio W netbook may bear Sony’s high end Vaio brand name, but it’s not really all that much of a looker. The design is pretty much par for the netbook course, with a 10 inch display and chiclet-style keyboard. But the company plans to launch a special edition Vaio W in Australia soon that has a bit more flare.

The Sony Vaio W Billabong Special Edition features a lid designed by the folks at Billabong, an Australian company that makes products for surfing, skateboard, and other sports.

The lid features splashes of green, blue, and black and a design that kind of looks like you painted the thing yourself… and just let the paint drip.

The netbook will ship with an Intel Atom N450 processor, Windows 7 Starter, and other standard netbook specs including 1Gb of RAM and a 260GB hard drive. One thing that continues to set the Vaio W apart from other netbooks is the high resolution, 1366 x 768 pixel display that comes standard.

The Sony Vaio W Billabong netbook should be availabl ein Australia in July for the equivalent f $620.

  1. Who’d want anything coming from Sony?
Sony will just do a firmware update to brick it if they don’t like what you use it for and take away functionality.
