Socle Technology is working on a new system-on-a-chip design called the sPAD that will combine a low power processor with 3D capable graphics. The sPAD platform is due out in the second half of 2010 and it’s designed specifically for low power tablets. Socle says the platform is more powerful than the A4 chip used in the Apple iPad.
The sPAD platform will support Google Android and other Linux-based operating systems. The processor will be an ARM 1176 CPU while the graphics will be based on a Mali 3D graphics core with support for 1080p HD video playback.
The system-on-a-chip design will support WiFi, Bluetooth, expandable memory, and a camera.
