The Asus Eee PC 1005PR is the first 10 inch netbook from Asus with a high resolution 1366 x 768 pixel display. it also packs a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator so you can actually watch HD video smoothly on the HD display. And while the Eee PC 1005PR isn’t shipping quite yet, it’s now available for pre-order from Amazon for $399.99.

The laptop has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It sports 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a 0.3MP webcam, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. Asus says the battery is good for up to 11 hours of run time, which in my experience means you’ll probably get about 8 hours of web surfing over WiFi.

Considering the HD display and Broadcom video accelerator, $400 seems like a pretty good price. But bear in mind, that video accelerator will only help with video playback. It can’t handle 3D graphics and it’s not going to make the Eee PC 1005PR any faster than a typical Intel Atom powered netbook for most tasks.

  1. If it doesn’t have HDMI output, what’s the point?

A built-in ATSC/clear QAM TV tuner would also be nice.

    1. After using a 1024×600 netbook for a while I’m ready to switch to a higher resolution. I have played with a 1366×768 resolution 10″ netbook before and it makes a big difference.
