The latest Google Android tablet from Archos is now rounding the FCC web site on its way to general availability. The Archos 7 Home Tablet is basically what you get if you take the Archos 5 Internet Tablet and replace the 5 inch display with a 7 inch screen, beef up the entire case, and reduce the 800MHz ARM-based CPU to a 600MHz model. Oh yeah, the Archos 7 also packs 2GB to 8GB of flash storage space, compared with the 8GB to 32GB you get with the Archos 5. (The Archos 5 is also available with hard drives up to 500GB).

The up side? The Archos 7 isn’t just bigger. It’s also cheaper, with a starting price of about $179.

The FCC has posted a series of documents related to the Archos 7, including some shots of the tablet as well as photos of what it looks like under the hood. There’s also a user manual available.

As Wireless Goodness notes, the photos actually show an Archos 7 branded with German wireless carrier EWE’s logo on the front, which seems to imply that Archos is with telecoms to offer 3G enabled versions of the tablet. It’s not clear whether the 3G model will be available in the US.

  1. Remember that the 8 GB model is available at amazon for preorder at $199. I ordered mine since April 1st.

No word yet on shipping date.

  2. je pense que si archos est serieux avec ce produit, il poura remporter un grand succès au detriment de l’ipad ce produit semble être vraiment bien. j’atend de pouvoir l’acheter

  3. If the pricing of $179 is true, this may wipe out the ipads sucess. Archos should come out with a 10 inch screen and sell it for $250. Then, it will be the king.

Nobody would buy an ipad then.
