After a long and legally complicated wait, the Crunchpad JooJoo tablet is now shipping. The tablet features a 12.1 inch screen and a custom OS that’s built primarily to support a web browser and web-based applications. It features WiFi connectivity and sells for $499. And according to the folks at JooJoo, customers that have already placed orders should start receiving units as soon as March 29th.
I’m looking forward to seeing some real-world reviews of this tablet. But at $499, I have to wonder is the larger display enough of a reason to justify buying a JooJoo over an iPad?
On the other hand, it looks like the JooJoo has an Intel Atom processor and NVIDIA ION graphics, which means you could always wipe the OS and install Windows, Linux, or OS X if you’re not happy with the out of the box user experience.

Larger screen might not be enough of a reason, but given how badly the iPad is going to be locked down, maybe the ability to “do what YOU want with it” is a good enough reason for buying the JooJoo.
