The Acer Aspire 1420P is a tablet-style laptop with an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display that you can fold down over the keyboard for use in slate mode. While this form factor has been around for years, we’re just starting to see budget versions pop up. Yesterday I pointed out a handful of 10 inch netbook/tablets with Intel Atom processors. The Aspire 1420P is a little bit larger and significantly more powerful thanks to its dual core Intel Celeron SU2300 CULV processor and integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics.

The laptop isn’t available in the US yet, but Blogeee noticed that French retailer Rue du Commercis is taking orders for the laptop. It’s priced at 499 Euros, which is about $688 US. But that price will likely be much lower if and when the Acer Aspire 1420P is released in the States.

The 1420p has a 6 cell, 62Whr battery which Acer says should be good for 6 to 8 hours of run time. The laptop has 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, HDMI and VGA outputs, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and an SD card reader. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium.

  1. I received mine a 4 months ago at the PDC conference in the States.
I am very pleased with its performance. However, the touchscreen sometimes works in parts of the screen (rarely happens), but its easily fixed with a quick restart. I do wish the graphics could be a bit better; 720p movies are fine but not 1080p. Mine came with Win 7 Ultimate, and I haven’t had any trouble with it at all. There’s a Ctrl+Alt+Del Button on the lower left hand corner of the screen that I find useful when in tablet mode. Battery life is decent; usually 5-6 hours for normal use. I guess the stated 8+ hours is if the screen is off (there is a lovely button to do that also), perfect for torrenting without without using much power. The stylus is well built and not bulky. Going into tablet mode, you can only turn the screen left, which is not a big deal but may be annoying for some users. The keyboard is one of the best I’ve used but I wish it was backlighted. The laptop is completely black with chrome accents around the screen. I assume they’ll make them more colorful for consumers.
    I give it 8.7/10

  2. come to think of it… the venerable little 1410 with almost the same specs goes for as low as $380, so it’s definitely likely.

I’m so getting one of these.

  3. “…a good rule of thumb for estimating the equivalent $USD price is that it will be approx the same amount in USD and Euros i.e it it lists at €499 it will be approx. $499 in the US.”

If this is true I’m definitely getting this. Netbook size with notebook power AND touchscreen at that price point? Not even a question.

  4. I really hope this one surfaces in the US soon. At 3.7lbs it’s still on the heavy side, but it’s also got a far more powerful CPU, better graphics, HDMI, and a larger HD screen that makes it worthy of the extra weight (unlike most 4lb tablet bricks). I could easily see using something like this for a primary laptop and supplementing it with my 9″ T91MT.

  5. The 1820PTZ has also been listed here since Nov:

The 1420 varient is also listed here:
    https://www.notebook.de/acer-aspire-1420-series-g-1218
For some reason the availability has been slipping out since then.

And a good rule of thumb for estimating the equivalent $USD price is that it will be approx the same amount in USD and Euros i.e it it lists at €499 it will be approx. $499 in the US.
