Samsung N210 now shipping in the US

01/22/2010 at 9:33 AM by Brad Linder 5 Comments

The first of Samsung’s new Pine Trail netbooks hit the streets a few days ago. And now the Samsung N210 is joining the NB30 in the US.

Best Buy has the Samsung N210 in stock for $379.99. That’s about $10 more than the price of the NB30. But while the NB30 features a semi-rugged design and a battery which Samsung claims is good for up to 11 hours, the N210 has a 12 hour battery and a slightly more professional look.

Both laptops feature Samsung’s new island-style keyboard layout with a bit of space in between the flat keys. The N210 has some shiny chrome around the edges of the laptop while the NB30 is uniform in color and features a textured lid and case.

I got a chance to check out each laptop at CES earlier this month and you for more details you can check out my hands-on impressions of the Samsung NB30 and Samsung N210.

Purchased the N210 two days ago from Best Buy, here in NYC. Its shipping with a 4400mAh battery. After a full charge, with the display turned down to 10% (which was still usable), I was able to get 8 hours, running the netbook through mixed tasks (surfing, spreadsheeting, videos, etc.). I wonder if the larger capacity battery is out in the wild, yet. . .

Kind of wish these “I got to check it out at CES” reviewers would clear up whether or not these notebooks had fans on them. That is probably the most important feature/result of the Pine Trail chipset, and you guys are totally oblivious, getting caught up in all the other superfluous details. Like “ew it’s so ugly”.

I’m pretty sure none of these netbooks are fanless. Even though Pinetrail would easily allow for a fanless design, probably none of the manufacturers bothered to invest into it (it costs money to work on a fanless design).

All the “new” netbooks are basically just the same old, with a N450 thrown in.

Yeah, I’m 95% certain that this and most other Pine Trail netbooks have
fans.

I’d love to see the mother board to see if there is an open PCIe mini slot…or any open slots that might be useful for updating the video performance later.

I’m really disheartened by the lack-luster netbooks coming out this year. I have the cash but nobody has a better product for me to buy. And 2011 looks just as bad if Cedar Trail rally is only going to be 5% faster then Pine Trail. I guess Intel figured out how to kill netbooks…makeum’ suck.
