Lenovo has added a low end option to its IdeaPad U150 line of thin and light laptops. The notebook had already been available with a choice of a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 or 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor. Now there’s a cheaper model with a 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 CPU.

The new model also has less RAM and a smaller hard drive than the other two, but it also has a lower price tag: starting at just $550.

The U150 with a Celeron processor has 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and 802.11b/g WiFi. The laptop has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, GMA 4500MHD graphics and a dual core SU2300 CPU. It runs Windows 7 Home Prmeium and weighs about 3.3 pounds.

There’s no mention of the new model on Lenovo’s U150 page yet, but you can pre-order it for $549.99 + free shipping from Amazon. Or you can get a similarly equipped Acer Aspire 1410 for about 00 less.

  1. I have the u150 with the 4100 processor and paid the $550 w/ free shipping just after Black Friday. Very happy with the performance and build quality. The keyboard and touchpad are first class and the screen is sharp and bright. Having lived with the 4100 processer, the 2300 may be a step too slow for me.

Regarding the battery, yes it does protrude a bit from the back of the bottom, but I don’t find this much of an issue. In fact it tilts the keyboard just enough to aid typing and it’s a convenient handle when removing from the sleeve. I have a Targus A7 12 inch sleeve that fits it just fine, even with a bit of a buldge. Only negative so far is battery life. I haven’t attempted to optimize anything and get about 4.5 hours( wifi on, bluetooth off, camera off, screen set to 40%) on a charge, no where near the 7.5 advertised. If I keep tweeking and get 5 to 6 hours I’ll be pleased.

  2. Anyone interested in this, be warned, the battery bulges a bit. For sucha pricey machine, I have no idea why they cannot make it slim like the Asus UL20A or the HP DM1.

I just bought one and I am unhappy with the huge battey

    1. Thanks, Michael. I was considering one of these but I don’t care much for battery bulge on a machine this price. It’s okay on a netbook, but just barely.
