msi x350

The MSI X-Slim series of notebooks are thin and light with low power, moderate performance processors. When MSI first introduced the X-Slim series at CES in early 2009, it was hard to resist comparing the sleek looking laptops to the MacBook Air. You know, if the MBA had a heck of a lot less processing power and a much, much lower price tag.

But it looks like MSI is giving these notebooks a performance boost. At launch, the first X-Slim models had Intel Atom processors. Then MSI started using single core Intel CULV processors such as the SU3500 Core 2 Solo CPU. And now MSI is launching the MSI X350, with a dual core Intel Consumer Ultra Low Processor.

The X350 is basically an updated version of the company’s X340 laptop with a 13.4 inch display. It measures less than 0.78 inches thick, and the new model will be available with either an Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100 or Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor.

It will be available with 320GB to 500GB of hard drive space and a choice of 4 or 8 cell batteries.  You also get Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, HDMI, 2GB of RAM, a 1366 x 768 pixel display, and a 1.3MP webcam.

The MSI X-Slim X350 is still no MacBook Air. But it’s no netbook either.

  1. Got an X340 with Celeron compared to netbooks this machine performs much better and the dual-cores are a welcome. Aside from the processor ram should be made to 4gb even by using single soddim sticks..

  2. I think for the 13 inch category, nobody can shake the Vostro V13. I am sure the Vostro V13 would be KING for a long long time. Personally, I would go for the Dell as it has good old established branding backign them and I am rest assured they would jump if anything goes wrong.

    1. How can you call a laptop that hasn’t even started shipping yet, king? And the Dell Vostro really has nothing on the Asus ULs or the Acer Timelines, if you customize a Vostro to match the 13.3″ models from those lines, C2D CULV and 4gb Memory, the Vostro comes out to $824. The Asus UL30A is selling for $650 on Amazon. And the $824 configuration still comes with its puny battery life and smaller HDD (320 GB). Be ready to pay another 77$ to get a 500GB harddrive.

  3. This will be a huge hit. Praises to MSI for coming out with the X series, at least, its an affordable Mac Air machine.
Even more praises to them for actually coming out a 13.4 inch screen at 1.3KGs. I think no other notebook manufacturer can beat them on this, taking into consideration the low price.

Of course you cannot compare the Dynamism machines. But then again they got 5000 and above.

  4. If they improved on the old (squishy) keyboard, this could really be a nice little comp.

I looked at the MSI X-slims when i shopped and got my acer 3810tz. I liked them aside from terrible keyboard.

  5. Glossy or matte screen?

    lol @ ‘diamond-motif etching technology’
    really, wgaf?

  6. They’re very late to the party. Asus and Acer have been doing this for 4 months. Although MSI’s design is great for anyone who wants the MBA look alike.
