The Acer Aspire Timeline 1820PTZ isn’t shipping yet in the west, but VR-Zone forum member Denosha managed to get his hands on Acer’s first 11.6 inch touchscreen tablet-style notebook and he’s posted a detailed article on his early impressions of the notebook.

Here’s the nutshell version, but if you’re interested in picking up this model, you should really check out the whole post for more details, photos, and videos.

  • The computer is small, but heavy for an 11.6 inch notebook at 3.8 pounds.
  • The screen is heavy enough to make the computer fall over if you tilt the display back too far.
  • Plastic case, but solid build quality without any noticeable keyboard flex
  • The color and contrast on the touchscreen display aren’t that great, although it is sharp due to the high pixel density.
  • The touchscreen can recognize either finger or stylus input, although you’ll get best results if you switch the settings to finger or stylus mode first.
  • The display is pressure sensitive.
  • The computer has an Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100 CPU and has no problems with HD YouTube videos or 720p local video playback. 1080p playback is a little more finicky.
  • Good battery life, with an unscientific estimate of 7 to 8 hours of run time from the 5600mAh battery.

You can check out a few videos from the review after the break.

  1. I got my hands on the 1810TZ model very nice machine, could even handle Autocad.Though the 8 hour battery claim is when run on optimized for battery settings with normal/balanced windows power profile it goes for about 6hrs.

  2. Makers o 11.6 inch machines need to target their machines below 1.3KG. Making it over 1.6KGs is a disgrace.

That weight figure to screen size was achieved countless years ago

  3. Very nice looking CULV tablet, but it’s “Pen Mode” seems to be the same as the Asus t91MT’s. That is, it’s software palm rejection combined with the soft resistive touch screen with no active digitizer. You can see it misses a letter when he writes so I doubt it’s good for inking.
