stantum slate pc

Stantum’s Slate is interesting – though it doesn’t excite me the way the original enthusiast Dell Mini mod does. Those who aren’t so DIY inclined, however, may be interested in checking out the Slate.

Thanks to Netbooked, we’ve got a video you can check out after the break. Netbooked also mentions Stantum’s ambitions to produce touch-enabled devices in a wide range of screen sizes – from 2.5″ all the way up to 32″.

I can’t help but think that for the Slate to do well in retail it will have to be priced aggressively. The Gigabyte T1028X is selling for $668, and it sports a larger 6-cell battery, 250GB hard drive, and a full keyboard. The Slate’s Mini 10 internals are a step down – and the lack of a keyboard is something that would drive me nuts on a 10″ device.

In action, the Slate does look like fun. It’s not ready for production yet, of course, so we’ll have to wait before passing final judgement on things like price and components. What price point would make the Slate interesting to you? Personally, I don’t think I’d go beyond $399.
