toshiba culv

Toshiba is jumping on the CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) bandwagon with two new laptops. The Toshiba Satellite T135 is a 13.3 inch machine, while the Satellite T115 has an 11.6 inch display which will place it firmly in Acer Aspire 1410/Dell Inspiron 11z/Samsung X120 territory.

The 13.3 inch Satellite T135 will come with choice of three CULV processors: Pentium, Celeron single core, or Celeron dual core. The T115 will be available with just the Pentium or single core Celeron option. Both laptops have 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, 3 USB ports, and will ship starting on October 22nd with Windows 7.

The larger model comes with up to 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive, weighs  about 3.9 pounds. It’ll have a starting price of $599. The T115 will weigh about 3.5 pounds and will be available with up to 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. It’ll start at $449.

  1. Why would I want a nearly 4 lb 13″ computer? The specs are blip up from a netbook, but lugging that 64oz will be a pain [Quite Literally] in the back. This computrers seems like a throw back to five years ago.

Today there are 8 oz handheld computers. There are 10″ screen 1.5 lbs netbooks nearly out. People have choices and most of them are lighter weight. The old math equation where a 4 lbs ‘small’ computer makes sense no longer adds up.

They need to shave ‘a pound’ off those devices. I don’t care if that seem light weight for a 13″ screen, these are NEW models competing with what was acceptable two years ago isn’t good enough.
