eee pc 1201n

Asus hasn’t announced any laptops with NVIDIA ION graphics yet, but a Chinese store has posted a product page for an Eee PC 1201N laptop with a 12 inch display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and NVIDIA ION graphics.

The laptop would also have 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive, which is a pretty good indication that this thing isn’t likely to hit the streets before Windows 7 is launched on October 22nd. Microsoft prohibits netbook makers from installing low cost Windows XP licenses on machines with more than 1GB of RAM or 160GB of storage.

The Eee PC 1201N display is a HD widescreen display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. And the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M chip looks like an ION chip, not ION LE, since the specs mention support for DirectX 10.

The laptop also reportedly has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet, a VGA port, USB, audio I/O, and a 6 cell, 5200mAh battery that’s capable of up to 11 hours of run time. I’m guessing you won’t get anywhere near that kind of battery life when playing HD video.

If the picture is accurate, it looks like the 12 inch laptop will take its design cues from the Asus Eee PC 1101HA, 1005HA, and other “seashell” series netbooks. But it’s also possible that’ sjust an image of an existing model like the 1101HA.

  1. This has to be the ultimate netbook without question!

I was thinking of getting the Asus 13.3″ UL30V but that is limited by GMA X4500 graphics albeit with Intel CULV processor, and the HP DM3 seems to have the same limitations as well as being an HP which I have reliability reservations about. The rumoured ASUS UL30VT with switchable graphics as in the bulky 14″ UL80VT may or may not make an appearance – so the 1201N is the one for me.

    1. The UL30VT will be released in early December. Check the Amazon boards for the UL80VT for confirmation from an ASUS rep.

  2. Asus may not have announced the 1201N yet, but this model was already present in the roadmap which leaked in August.

BTW: The Chinese price of 3504 yuan translates into roughly 520 USD.

  3. Give me something like the 1005HA model with an N280 or faster Atom , full Ion chipset, and a screen that does 1366×768 for $399 and I might begin to actually come off of some money to buy a netbook, finally. Until then, I’ll wait. Intel chipsets aren’t worth my money. I want a netbook, but I want one that has some umph in the graphics department.
