umid m1 jolicloud

Jolicloud is a custom, Linux-based operating system designed for netbooks. And it supports most netbooks that use Intel Atom N270/N280 processors and GMA 950 graphics, which covers an awful lot of netbooks. But a handful of netbooks and other mini-laptops and handheld devices use Intel Atom Z-series processors and integrated GMA 500 graphics. And right now Jolicloud doesn’t play so well with that hardware.

But that should be changing soon. The Jolicloud team posted a picture of the operating system running on a UMID M1 which has GMA 500 graphics. The next release of the OS should add support for this device, as well as the Dell Inspiron Mini 10, Asus Eee PC 1101HA, and other devices that use this chipset. That might include the Asus Eee PC T91, but I’m not sure whether touchscreen support will be included.

  1. I tried installing this on my Asus 1000h and bam no Wireless Internet. Thats a serious problem to be having if your singling out the netbook crowd. The 1000h is a pretty common netbook too.
