hp dv1

A few weeks ago HP announced that the successor to its 12.1 inch Pavilion DV2 laptop with AMD Neo graphics would be a 13.3 inch model called the Pavilon DM3 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 10 hour battery. And while that all sounds very exciting, I was a bit disappointed to see this product category creeping toward larger and larger machines. Which is why I’m kind of excited about the news that HP is also apparently working on an 11.6 inch machine called the Pavilion dm1 which will have an Intel ULV processor and up to 9 hours of battery life.

The folks at Engadget got their hands on an early edition of HP’s upcoming product catalog and it mentions three as-yet unannounced models including the dm1. The others include the Pavilion dv3 with a 13.3 inch multitouch display ant HPs TouchSmart software and the Pavilion dv8 with an 18.4 inch display.

But I’m most interested in the dm1 portable. It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, up to 5GB of DDR3 1066 RAM, and 500Gb of hard disk space. It has a 92% full sized keyboard (which looks like the same keyboard found on the HP Mini 311, and optional discrete graphics.

No word on pricing or availability yet, but it’s a safe bet that the dm1 won’t be available until after Windows 7 is released in late October.
