hp mini 311 orders

As expected, HP has begun taking orders for the HP Mini 311. This is the company’s first laptop to use the NVIDIA ION LE platform which bundles a low power Intel Atom processor with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics.

The laptop has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive and starts at $399.99. There are a few customization options. You can choose a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU or pay an extra $25 for a 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor. 802.11b/g WiFi come standard, but you can choose to add Bluetooth and/or 802.11n. And while the default configuration comes with a black lid, you can pay $20 extra for a white cover if that’s your cup of tea.

The HP Mini 311 comes with a 6 cell battery, and while there’s no extended battery option, you can pick up a spare 6 cell battery for just $49 which is a pretty good price.

  1. I wonder if this with one of the new 2.0GHZ Atoms and the 9400M would be legit competition for a low end CULV machine like the Acer 1410. It would still be relatively slow, but a decent multimedia machine given the discrete graphics and the faster atom might do better with HULU/Youtube (at least until they start using the graphics card.)

You’d think this could be a cheaper option than the CULV route, and maybe with better battery times (esp if they ever put in switchable graphics.)

    1. TK – It only comes with the 1.6Ghz Atom processors, but you can pay extra for the 667 FSB vs. the 533 FSB.

At $399, I’m considering getting rid of the laptop I just ordered for $550 just to get a DVD burner and an extra 2 inches of laptop screen real estate.

The real plusses for the 311 are the 1368 x 768 resolution, DDR3 memory, ION chipset, and optional 12 cell battery.

HP netbooks were overpriced before, but this one seems just right. Somewhere Asus and Acer are pretty mad with themselves as is Dell for killing off the Mini 12.

  2. How do I get my hands on one if I live outside of the US?? Just went through the order process on HP’s website but typically it only ships to US addresses!
