Atheros has unveiled a new half-mini card that combines 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth wireless capabilities on a single PCIe card. This means you can install a single solution in netbooks, notebooks, or tablet computers while freeing up space inside the computer for additional components such as TV tuners, GPS receivers, or VoIP dongles. Ultimately, using one chip will also probably be more energy efficient and cheaper than two separate chips.
The Atheros AR9002WB-1NGB card supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR as well as the recently approved 802.11n WiFi standard. Atheros says the card supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7 as well as Linux. The card is still in testing, but it should begin showing up in laptops in the not too distant future.
