When it rains it pours. Yesterday Gigabyte sent me a TouchNote T1028X convertible tablet style netbook to review. And today a Samsung Go (also known in some parts as the Samsung N310) arrived at my doorstep. I’m going to need to add another power strip under my desk if this keeps up.
I’ll be testing both of these netbooks out over the next few days, and you can expect detailed reviews soon. But here are some initial impressions of the Samsung Go:
- I’ve seen dozens of pictures of this netbook and the rubberized case always looked a bit silly. But in person, it’s actually quite nice looking and has a decent, solid feel to it.
- The chiclet-style keyboard stretches from one edge of the netbook to the other, and is one of the best I’ve seen on a netbook to date.
- The high capacity, 8850mAh battery is surprisingly small. As a Samsung rep recently told me, while most computer makers outsource their battery technology, Samsung develops its own batteries for use in its netbooks.

It’s nice to see companies doing something with extended batteries other than sticking them out the back like a deformed appendage. It was a little hard to tell from the video, about how far does this battery stick out from the bottom?

Yep. This is a loaner from Samsung.
I like the design of the N310, except I don’t care for the edge-to-edge glass and glossy screen, but I could accept those. It looks like they really did a good job of getting the keyboard out to the edge. I wish more companies would take note of this.
And I’m assuming they will in time upgrade from the same-old-same-old specs.
I saw a N310 in the wild least week. This nice young women at the library had one and said she loved it. She was impressed I knew what it was and was please I was looking salaciously at it and not her.
I wonder if it was color-coordinated with her ensemble. 🙂 Seriously, you’re lucky to see a real person with a netbook. The only netbooks I’ve seen around here are either my own or in stores.
