gmail labels

One of the defining characteristics of netbooks is that they’re smaller than full sized laptops. And most of the time, that means you have smaller, lower resolution displays. It turns out, some web sites that were designed for 1280 x 1024 pixel displays don’t look so good on screens that max out at 1024 x 600 pixels. Who woulda thunk?

Anyway, Google, a company that’s working on an entire operating system optimized for netbooks, is offering a slight tweak to Gmail that makes the web-based email service easier to use on devices with small screens. All you have to do is click the little green labs button next to the settings in Gmail and then find the experimental feature called “Remove Labels from Subjects.”Hit the Save Changes button, and Gmail will no longer show message labels in the subject line.

Labels will still be applied to your messages appropriately, which helps you sort and search. But you’ll be able to see more of the subject line once this labs feature is enabled.
