viewsonic nettops

Viewsonic, a company best known for making LCD displays, has also dipped its toe into the netbook space. And now the company is introducing its first nettops, or low power desktop computers. The Viewsonic VOT 130 is a pretty typical nettop with an Atom N270 CPU, GMA950 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive.

But there’s also a souped up model called the VOT 132 that packs a dual core Atom 330 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. The VOT132 will support up to 3GB of RAM and come with a 250GB hard drive, as well as HDMI output. Both models have 6 USB ports, DVI, Ethernet, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

The VOT 130 will sell for about $331 while the NVIDIA ION-powered VOT 132 will set you back about $514.

Viewsonic is also introducing a handful of other computers including the somewhat chunkier VOT 120 nettop with an Atom N270 CPU, the VOT 121 with a 1.3GHz CULV Su2700 CPU. Both of these models include Intel GS40 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drives. They’ll sell for $301 and $423.

The company also has two new netbooks, the VNB 100 and VNB 101. These two netboks sport 10.2 inch, 102 x 600 pixel displays. up to 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drives, 802.11b/g WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.0. The VNB 100 has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU while the VNB 101 has a slightly faster 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor. The VNB 100 will retail for about $433, while the VNB 101 will set you back about $483.

If you’re looking for something with a small form factor, but don’t care so much about the low power Atom processor, the company’s new VOT 530 and 550 desktops look like Mac Mini’s painted black, and each sports a 2.1GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU and up to 4GB of RAM. These guys will sell for $818 to $1121.

  1. These need to be black so when they are stuffed behind a HDTV they are not noticable. Haven’t seen any white HDTVs recently.

  2. This net-top and netbook craze means anyone can make a computer if they are willing to order 3,000 at once as a batch order from an OEM in China.

I would not be shocked if Kellogg’s of Battle Creek made a ‘Corn Flakes’ branded computer you could buy for 90 Box-tops and $19.95 (+S&H). Slap a big old ‘rooster’ on the side of the case and its ready to ship.

Maybe, Brad can make a branded “Liliputer” and sell it at the mall in a push-cart.
