Asus just sent me an Eee PC 1008HA to review. While I still have a little tinkering to do before I can write up a full review, here are a few initial thoughts.
First, it’s thin. I mean, I knew it was thin. But it’s really, really thin. Aesthetically it’s much more like the thin and light HP Mini 1000 than the Asus Eee PC 1000H, which looks like a monster next to the new model.
Second, in order to make the computer that thin and light, Asus made some sacrifices. Instead of a full sized VGA port, there’s a tiny mini-port that requires an adapter to plug in an external monitor. There are only 2 USB ports instead of the customary 3. And there are no access panels on the base of the unit. You can’t easily upgrade the RAM, hard drive, or battery without cracking open the computer case.
I shot a little video of the unboxing and spent a few moments comparing the Eee PC 1008HA to the Eee PC 1000H. You can watch the video after the page break.
I have one. I’m use to glossy as I have macbook pros. Its a nice little lappy
Is it usable outdoors? I am out-door-computing enough that it can be a deal killer…
Wow, Asus included a free mirror with the 1008HA!
That is one shiny screen.
