vaio p glossy black

Just in case you were under the impression that falling Sony Vaio P prices in Taiwan meant that Sony was rethinking its decision to charge an arm and leg for its glorified netbook, think again. Because now Sony has introduced the Vaio Signature Series which includes a limited edition “Glossy Black” Sony Vaio P for $1,999.99.

The netbook mini-notebook has a 1.86GHz Intel Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and runs Windows Vista Home Basic and weighs just 1.4 pounds. But while the small size, large SSD and 1600 x 768 pixel display are certainly premium features, the truth of the matter is that this machine still has an Intel Atom processor that’s great for saving power but not so great for high performance computing tasks. And for $2,000, I’d expect any computer to wash my dishes and walk the dog. Heck, I don’t even have a dog, but I’d expect a $2,000 laptop to go out and pick up one from the pound for me and then take it for a walk.

The Sony Vaio P “Glossy Black” edition will only be available to the first 1,000 customers. So if you’ve got more money than you know what to do with burning a hole in your pocket, you’d better act fast.

  1. 256MB SSD!? In a laptop for $2000!? WTF is this 1988!? C’mon already are you serious? Don’t buy it… 256MB SSD is way too small! Anyway the other components are okay.

  2. I must be getting old. I can remember when Sony had a well deserved reputation as a company that made affordable consumer electronics that worked well all the time. Seems like Sony has taken the Bose attitude of charging an arm and a leg just for their brand name.

If you reflect on it you might conclude that it would suffice if it would just take care of the cat’s sandbox.

But I think I’m going to wait until they come out with a Vivienne Tam BMW model with chrome, leather, simulated fur, and hubcaps on the ends of the battery compartment.

Edit: …and maybe a small antenna with a tiny fake squirrel tail on the end.

  4. I truly wish there was competition for this thing. This is exactly what I want, at a price I don’t wish to pay.

Someone, offer an alternative to this guy – keyboard layout, screen, all the external stuff – with nearly whatever innards you want, at a much cheaper price, and I’ll buy.

    1. Why would you want the extra wide screen? Makes web sites (and most programs in maximized windows) look like crap.

    Very nice summary.

Youre in trouble now… any day Carlos Menstealia will be trolling this site for material.

  6. Love your sense of humor Brad. What else can you do but laugh at this “deal”.
