Samsung has launched a line of solid state disks for use in netbooks. According to PC World, they consume about 0.3 watts of power, which is less than a third of the power draw in Samsung’s 2.5 inch SSDs. Of course, the new SSDs are also slower and offer less storage capacity than those high end SSDs. The new Samsung SSDs come in sizes of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.
The SSDs have read speeds of around 200Mbps and write speeds of 100Mbps, which is pretty good for the low end SSD space, but still noticeably slower than the read/write speeds of higher priced disks.
The company is reportedly looking to partner with PC makers who could use the SSDs in netbooks either as primary storage or in addition to a hard drive. It doesn’t sound like the Samsung SSDs will be offered as a standalone product for netbook users looking to upgrade their storage.
Are they as fast as what JkkMobile has tested from RunCore?
PATA or SATA?
Drop in replacements for netbook HD’s for various models?
Looking for something for a Gecko Edubook (IDE) that is fast like RunCore.
Would love to see the speed and power savings of ARM and Qualcomm stuff shown in EeePC (the one taken from show floor that is a mystery), with Pixel Qi screen, and the AA battery design of the Gecko Edubook. With a fast SSD that has ECC and wearleveling. AND with a netbook OS that will do this so that the SSD has a very long and fast lifetime:

Furthermore, implement the instructions to get /var/log and /tmp on a ramdisk (/tmpfs).
Especially make sure you get Firefox’s sqlite files on a ramdisk. If anything burns your SSDs, it will be Firefox.

Faster than Runcore? Maybe. Have to whait for a 4k write Test. The Readspeed is faster but the Writespeed not. Important under normal OS use is the 4k write and read.
Will be SATA and for different Netbook Models.
I hace 4 different SSD from Runcore and Super Talent, they work fine. By the Speed of the Samsung and others the bottleneck is than the Chipset, not the Drive.
For me the important thing is not a Ramdrive or right Browser, it is the Alignment of the SSD. You should do it to get full speed. XP and Vista cant handle SSD without. Only Windows 7 can.
Just my 2 Cents 🙂
Always good to see more SSDs on the market and they are the future. I have now 4 of them. 😉
