t91 tablet

Asus has published a US product page for the upcoming Eee PC T91 convertible tablet style netbook. This will be the first mini-laptop from the company with a touchscreen display that can fold down over the keyboard for use in tablet mode.

The Eee PC T91 has an 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display. The version that ships with Windows XP will reportedly have a resistive touchscreen, which means single-touch only. But word on the street is that the version that ships with Windows 7 later this year will include a capacitive display capable of recognizing multiple inputs to take advantages of the gesture and multitouch support in Windows 7.

There aren’t too many surprises on the T91 product page. Asus confirms that the netbook will weigh just under 2.2 pounds and that it will have a battery capable of running for up to 5 hours on a charge. Asus is also showcasing the new TouchSuite software the company has developed to make it easy for students or other T91 users to interact with the device using the touchscreen.

In related news, Register Hardware reports that the T91 will carry a pretty high price tag in the UK, with a starting price around £450 or about $740 US.

  2. oddly enough, the desktop is ubuntu/gnome…
even on the product page they say it will be shipped with win, and then have this pic with linux on it…..

    marketing gone…. bonkers?

  3. Does anyone know if the Pixel Qi screens support capacitive multitouch?

  4. Where are you getting that they will be replacing the screen? I would assume they would keep it the same. Resistive screens can support multitouch.

  5. Well, it should be less then $740 since such things are never one-to-one in terms of price. But I would not pay over $485 for it and even then that would be pushing it, the unit would have to be a great netbook, a great touch pad, and be great in all respects to even interest me at $485.
