When Dell unveiled the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook way back in January, the company promised it would have a few exciting options that you won’t find on most netbooks, like an integrated GPS receiver or TV tuner. But when the company actually launched its first netbook with a 10 inch screen several months later, neither option was anywhere in site.

Now Dell is telling several sources (including Engadget and Gizmodo) that the TV tuner will be available starting today. The tuner will be an integrated ATSC tuner which can pick up over the air HDTV signals with the help of an external antenna. You’ll have to pony up an extra $50 to get a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with the tuner.

Engadget reports that Dell will also be rolling out a new color option, allowing you to order an Inspiron Mini 10 in purple. Right now the netbook is available in black, white, red, pink, blue, and green.

  1. WHY don’t they up the Ram to 2GB? or give us the option to upgrade?! im sure it has something to do with microsoft and their absurd XP licensing?

  2. $50 seems expensive when you can get a USB digital TV tuner for a whole lot less. Especially when the $50 tuner still sticks out like that.

    1. I think that is the external antenna, it looks like it has a suction cup to mount it anywhere. If it is wireless and helps with reception, this is a good thing.

      1. An aftermarket USB TV tuner is cheaper and smaller (though it also has an external antenna on a suction cup or magnet), so I don’t see the point of this gizmo.

  3. TV? Over air TV?

Well where’s the brass & oak Morse code key as well?

Maybe, they could fit the computer out with a jaunty pony & trap so when Gandalf the Grey come to town you can haul fireworks to the Hobbits.

    1. What’s wrong with OTA TV? I get free Hi-def TV, though I don’t watch it much I suppose.

    2. I’m actually using an ATSC OTA tuner for my Home Theater PC right now.
While I can only pick up about a dozen channels, the picture quality
is excellent, better than what you’ll get from most cable or satellite
      boxes.
