1008ha-video

Asus has released what looks like an official promotional video for the Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell netbook. It’s pretty much what you’d expect, a video showing off the thin and light netbook from a few different angles, highlighting its features (1.6GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU, 10.1 inch display, large keyboard, etc), and comparing it to a seashell (I still don’t really think the netbook looks like a seashell, but maybe that’s just me).

But when I took a look at the latest videos from the Asus YouTube channel, I noticed that the company released a more tongue-in-cheek video a few days ago. Folks have been making a lot of noise about just how thin this netbook is. It’s just 0.7 inches thick at its thinnest point. So Asus put together a little video showing one of the unusual situations where the laptop might come in handy: picking a lock credit-card style.

Yeah, that’s obviously not going to work unless there’s a gap in the doorway large enough to stick your finger in, in which case you hardly need the laptop to pick the lock. But it’s a little more creative than posting yet another video showing the netbook fitting into a business sized envelope.

You can check out both videos after the break, or read more about the Eee PC 1008HA in the Liliputing Product Database.

  1. What do people think of the non-replaceable battery? It gives me pause to tell the truth, but then again the damn thing will likely work for 2 years without much of an issue, right? So does it really matter if I can’t replace the battery?

You almost wish Asus had given people a ‘bit more’ to overcome this battery issue. Like making it even thinner and lighter. If they shaved off a few more ounces and made it thinner it just might see worth it since you’d have the thinnest lightest netbook.

    1. It’s very nearly the same weight as the original Eee PC 701, but packs a full-sized hard drive, 10″ screen, and a nearly full-sized keyboard. It’s also THINNER than the original Eee PC. It’s dead sexy in black, and I totally want one. Who wants to buy my nearly new 1000HE? [=^D

If you want essentially the same netbook with a user-replaceable battery, then Asus has given you just that in the Eee PC 1005HA. It’s a bit thicker, but you can slap on a battery that is rumored to last just as long as (if not longer than) the 1000HE. Take your pick!

  2. Anyone besides me now officially confused as hell by all of the different models of ASUS netbooks? What are there, like 100? They need to simplify this A LOT.
