310-promo

The upcoming Samsung N310 netbook has two claims to fame:

  1. Samsung claims it gets excellent battery life (up to 11 hours with a 6 cell battery)
  2. It has a unique design and doesn’t look like any other netbook on the market

Deep down inside, the N310 is actually quite a bit like other netbooks. It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1Gb of RAm, and a 160GB hard drive. It packs 802.11b/g/n WiFi and weighs in at about 2.7 pounds. But it has a rubberized case, keyboard and screen that blend seamlessly into the computer chassis, and an unusual set of color options.

Samsung put out a promotional this week highlighting some of these design elements. Honestly, I’m not sure why anyone would buy a computer based on a comparison to a kiwi or a rock. But maybe that’s just me. You can check out the video after the break.

  1. I don’t see anything wrong with trying something a little different, it doesn’t take too much thought to realise the niche they are aiming at! I guess time will tell whether it is going to be successful or not. I am sure they are well aware that you can’t please everyone and if this is an attempted to get netbooks to a different audience then it could be a good move. Or not.

  2. I like the rubberized outer shell, but the HUGE embossed logo is hideous. What engineering gives, marketing takes away. In this world of “me too” netbooks something as simple as a rugged shell could win customers. I wonder how many people will pass because of the huge logo.

    1. If the logo bothers you that much then put a fucking piece of duct tape over it or something.

If you guys weren’t such technically inept pussies who try to link your computers to your personal image, then maybe you would spend less time complaining about aesthetics and other stupid shit. Once the demand for stupid shit goes down, then perhaps the manufacturers will stop supplying it.

The netbook market is saturated, that much is clear.

      1. Yes, way to go, spend $400-$500 on a netbook just to have to patch it with duct tape, making it look even more hideous. BTW the logo is not flat, so the duct-tape idea is full of fail. Oh, and so are you, “that much is clear”.
