pcie-to-zifIf you have an Asus Eee PC 900 or 901 with a solid state disk, but you’d rather have a hard drive, CompactFlash adaptor, or some other form of memory you have two choices:

  1. Find a storage solution that fits in the PCI Express slot used by the SSD
  2. Pick up a PCIe to ZIF adapter that allows you to plug in any hard drive, SSD, or other storage solution that uses a ZIF connector

Blogger jkkmobile was involved in designing a PCIe to ZIF adapter last year, but it never came to market. But he recently spotted another adapter selling for $15 on eBay, and today he posted a video demonstrating how to install the adapter on an Eee PC 900 netbook. It should work even better with an Eee PC 901, because that model has a shelf that should accomodate a 1.8″ hard drive. You’ll probably have to do some case modifications on your own if you want to cram a hard drive in an Eee PC 900.

You can check out jkkmobile’s video after the break.
