There’s new out of Japan of two different netbook launches today. But neither laptop is particularly impressive, and neither is all that likely to make it to the US, so I figured I’d just group them into a single post.
The new Kohjinsha ML6 line of netbooks come with glossy 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel displays, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processors, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. They have 802.11b/g WiFi, weigh about 2.4 pounds and come with a 4 hour battery. They run Windows XP. One of the only things setting these netbooks apart from every other machine on the mrket is the inclusion of an ExpressCard/34 slot. But Even ExpressCard’s are becoming more common these days (the HP Mini 2140 and all three of Gigabyte’s newest netbooks have them). The ML6 comes in black and white and will sell for 39,800 yen or about $408 US.
Trigem‘s Averatec AVN0270NB is a larger notebook with a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1Gb of RAM, and 160GB hard drive and a 5 hour battery. It has 802.11b/g WiFi support and will sell for 44800 yen or about $459 US.
