eee-backup

Asus has been offering an online storage solution for Eee PC customers for a while. When you purchase an Eee PC netbook you can sign up for an account and store files from your computer online for safe keeping, or treat the online storage as if it were extra disk space if you have a model with a small solid state disk.

Asus also offers downloads of some applications, utilities, games, and multimedia through the Eee Storage service. And now Asus has added Eee Backup to its line of Eee Storage-based utilities. The program lets you automatically backup files or directories with little to no user intervention. Just select the directories you want to back up, and the application will do its thing.

It’s worth noting two things here. First, if you buy an Eee PC netbook with a 160GB  hard drive, you will not be able to back up 160GB worth of data. Asus provides 10 to 60Gb of storage space, depending on your netbook or nettop model. Second, while Asus offers online storage for free for the first 18 to 24 months, the company may begin charging for access after that time is up. So if you just want to back up a few files in your My Documents folder, Eee Storage could do the trick… for now. If you want to backup every last file on your computer you might want to look into commercial applications like Mozy or Carbonite.
