Lenovo could use NVIDIA Ion platform in low cost notebooks

The other day we reported that Lenovo was preparing to launch a 12 inch laptop as part of the company’s IdeaPad Sxx line. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10 is a pretty standard netbook with a 10 inch display and an Intel Atom processor. But according to DigiTimes, a Chinese language newspaper is suggesting that the new machines from Lenovo could be some of the first to use NVIDIA’s Ion platform.

In other words, these notebooks would have an Intel Atom processor paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor. This combination provides enhanced graphics performance while still consuming less power than most chipsets found in laptop or desktop computers.

Lenovo is reportedly working on 11.6 inch and 12.1 inch machines, and is considering a 13 inch model. The company may also be preparing a 12 inch computer using a VIA processor (most likely the new VIA Nano chip, rather than the VIA C7-M CPU that showed up in a number of first generation netbooks).

Good….I’d buy a Lenovo netbook. I just hope we see that 11.5″ with either a Atom N280 or VIA Nano too.

Just having that 10″ with the Atom ION combo seems a waste.

I would buy it as a notebook, not a netbook (litebook).

I’d be more impressed if Lenovo would come out with 6 cell batteries.

Well, guess what. Lenovo has a 6-cell for the s10 and s10e (I’m using one right now as I type this)

I realize that it shouldn’t be called a netbook but I hope that Lenovo or any other vendor doesn’t skimp on the screen resolution.

I am hoping for an Atom/ION based 11.6″ litebook which is about 1 inch thick and has a resolution of at least 1280×768 or 1366×768.

I know that Apple has a 13″ macbook with a slot load DVD which runs about $1300.

I would hope that the litebook could be priced in the $500 ish price range with out a dvd drive.

After the vortex of confusion with specs on the Lenovo S10, with first wave US purchasers not actually knowing if what Lenovo claimed they were getting was actually in the box until they opened the box, and then finding out it wasn’t… I wouldn’t even speculate on what technology might or might not be in future Lenovo models until a product actually ships. Otherwise you could get hit with the same bait and switch Lenovo pulled on us regarding graphics processor and on-board bluetooth for the S10’s initial release, which turned out to only be a way to lock up the orders of people who would have otherwise purchased an MSI Wind instead of waiting for the S10.
