When I spotted the Asus Eee PC 1004DN at CES, I was told that there were no immediate plans to bring this netbook to the US. But as Jeff from Netbook 3G discovered, Asus filed documents with the FCC this week, which seem to indicate that the company is at least considering selling the netbook in America.
The Eee PC 1004DN is the first netbook in the Eee PC line to include an optical disc drive. I believe Asus is using a Super Multi drive which can read and record DVDs and CDs. This netbook also may also have the new 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 and GN40 chipset. I say “may” have, because there’s virtually no information available on the FCC web site, so I’m relying on information I gathered at CES in January. And computer makers have a way of changing things between the time they first start showing off a computer and they day it’s ready for sale.
Is it available at the USA now? If yes, where can I buy it online?
Thank you!
Patricio from Argentina
If this doesn’t come to the US, I’m gonna cry. 🙁
Great, an optical drive.
Nice netbooklaptopdesktopreplacement. Why is every netbook maker hell-bent on NOT making netbooks any more? (Yes it’s a profit motive but you know what I mean…)
Assuming you are right about the CPU and chipset, the only thing missing from making this the Ultimate Nettbook™©® would be a convertible-tablet-style touchscreen like the Classmate, or the Gigabyte.
