1000he-review-laptopThose crazy kids at Laptop Magazine are on a roll today. This morning they posted a review of the new Acer Aspire One AOD150 netbook. And they threw in a review of the Eee PC 1000HE for good measure.

The Eee PC 1000HE is basically an updated version of the Asus Eee PC 1000H. It features an updated keyboard layout, a slightly more powerful 1.66GHz Intel atom N280 CPU, and a higher capacity battery which is good for around 7 hours of use. Despite the fact tht the netbook has a more powerful battery, it takes up less space, which means the Eee PC 1000HE doesn’t look as bulky as its predecessor.

With a starting price of $399 (or $374 if you pre-order), this could be one of the best deals around today. Of course, the way things go in the netbook world, that could change tomorrow.

  1. I just bought an MSI Wind U100 – but I’m recommending this Asus to my roommate. If I hadn’t needed an OS X compatible netbook, I think this would have much better choice.

    1. Chad, which netbooks can ‘easily’ take OS X? I also have an MSI Wind U100 and was thinking of buying another one for my girlfriend and install OS X on it. Can i also install OS X on my Wind and do dual booting? Thanks!

      1. also, do you know where i can find the best description on how to install OS X? I am not a techie, so plain language please! Thanks again!

        1. Basic answer – Dell Mini 9, Lenovo S10, or an MSI Wind U100

Here’s a chart of what works and what doesn’t – the chart also has a link to a tutorial on how to install OS X.

          Here’s a clearer tutorial:

But the basic answer for the easiest way to that is download a hacked ISO of OS X and buy an external USB DVD-ROM Drive to install it. For the MSI, the ROM you are looking for is MSIWindOSx.iso

          HTH!

(I’m personally still waiting for my USB DVD Drive to show up, so I haven’t actually installed it yet, just so you know.)

  2. Interesting that they still give the nod (slightly I think) to the Samsung NC10 (original version I think, they didn’t say) because of its “even better keyboard” and slightly lighter weight and thinner design. They lauded the 1000HE touchpad and didn’t mention the NC10 touchpad, maybe because the new NC10 special edition has a bigger one.

  3. I have a feeling this little guy will push me to try going with only a netbook, and dumping my full sized notebook… again.
