Pricegrabber Consumer Behavior Report
Pricegrabber Consumer Behavior Report

According to PriceGrabber a growing number of laptops being sold are netbooks. No real surprise there. But the report (PDF link) also makes a few other interesting claims. First, Pricegrabber says that 91 percent of the people they surveyed who said they have a netbook also have a full sized laptop and 87 percent own a desktop computer (I’m sure there’s some overlap between those two figures).

The report also found that more than half of netbook owners are between the ages of 35 and 44, which is interesting since the original idea behind low cost mini-notebooks was that they would be sold or donated to school children. Pricegrabber says about half of the top 25 laptops on Pricegrabber.com are netbooks, with the Acer Aspire One topping the list, followed by mini-laptops from Lenovo, HP, Samsung, Dell, Asus, and MSI.

One figure I’m a bit skeptical of is the company’s claim that “1 in 10 online users owns a netbook.” I know that mini-laptops are selling really well, but I’m pretty sure if I wandered the streets and asked 100 people whether they used the internet, most would say yes while fewer than 10 would say they have a netbook. I could be wrong here, but I think the report’s sample may have been skewed in some way. Perhaps it’s 1 in 10 people who buy a netbook after searching Pricegrabber or something along those lines.
