HP has been showing off the designer Vivienne Tam Edition of the HP Mini 1000 since before the company had even announed the HP Mini 1000. But up until now, the only photos I’d seen of the netbook were press shots or photos that journalists/bloggers took at press events. Now it looks like Judie at Gear Diary has gotten her hands on one and she plans to put it through the paces over the next week or so.
The netbook is essentially the same as a top of the line HP Mini 1000 with a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and a 60GB hard drive. The only real difference is the designer cover and color. Even the keyboard is painted in red and gold instead of the usual black and white. The Vivienne Tam Edition starts at $699.00, while the black HP Mini 1000 starts at $359.99. To get a black model with similar specs to the Vivienne Tam Edition netbook you’ll need to spend closer to $500, but that still means that anyone buying the Vivienne Tam Edition is paying around $200 for a fancy paint job.

$200 in my opinion is too much…
