eeebuntu-aspire-one

Eeebuntu 8.10 is a custom Linux distribution designed for Asus Eee PC models. But while Eeebuntu is built specifically for the Eee PC, it also works with similar hardware like the Acer Aspire One. Gary Rennie of OSnews has written up a handy tutorial for installing Eeebuntu and running it on an Acer Aspire One netbook from an SDHC card.

Most of the Rennie’s guide will require at least a basic understanding of Linux to follow, but if you’re willing to install the operating system directly to your computer’s main memory instead of an SDHC card, all you really need to do is plug in a USB disc drive and run the installer from the LiveCD or follow my tutorial for installing Eeebuntu on an Eee PC if you don’t have an external disc drive.

  1. And if you want to give it as a gift to a non-linux user, it might be a good idea to point him to https://www.allmyapps.com if he wants to find and install new applications. We just launched this website to help people with absolutely zero linux knowledge find and install new cool linux apps on their system. The site is brand new, so any feedbacks are warmly welcome!

    1. Hi

We have had reliable reports that Eeebuntu 2.0 runs well on the NC10, with only a couple of minor hiccups that other distros are also encountering, related to function keys. We are continuing to investigate and we’ll post more info on our forums.
