After the Asus press event yesterday the folks at TechRadar asked Asus CEO Jonney Shih if the company was considering using Google Android for any upcoming devices. And he said… maybe.Â
Apparently asus is considering the possibility of using Android for upcoming Eee PC models or the Eee Phone. But there’s a big difference between considering and actually using. We’ve already seen that it’s possible to run Android on a netbook, but the OS isn’t really designed for netbooks at this point and there aren’t many full desktop apps (like office document editoros) for the OS yet.Â
So I suspect it’s more likely that we’ll see an Asus cellphone running the OS than an Asus netbook. But we might see both one day… or neither.
Ubuntu Netbook edition is probably currently the best OS for netbooks: it’s lighweight and easy to use, has a whole range of applications available for it, and it looks great. Neither Windows nor Android make much sense for netbooks.
Maybe better on a MID?
