eee-pc-tablet

Some crazy Japanese hackers decided to turn an Asus Eee PC 4G (with a 7 inch display and 4GB of storage) into a tablet. Nothing new there. You can buy a kit that will let you do the same thing yourself. But there’s something different about this hack – the guys behind it decided to keep the keyboard. They just moved it out of the way of the screen.

The results are kind of ugly horrific. But for about $128 in parts, it looks like you can turn a cheap netbook into a cheap tablet, complete with a touchscreen and somewhat usable keyboard. The original keyboard is also small enough that you might be able to type with your thumbs while holding the tablet in two hands. Touch-typing with all 10 fingers seems like a bad idea, since you’d have to lay the tablet flat on a table to type — and then you wouldn’t be able to see the screen.
