aspire-one-10-inch-press-shotsAfter several weeks of leaks, Acer is making it official. The company has introduced a 10 inch version of the Acer Aspire One netbook. The new model will be a lot like the original Aspire One, but it will have a larger screen with the same 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.

The Acer press release makes it sound like the 10.1 inch display will be the best thing since sliced bread. It’s “designed for an optimal web browsing experience and Internet productivity.” But really, this is just Acer’s entry into a market that Asus, MSI, Lenovo, HP, and others have already thoroughly treaded.

Still, the new Aspire One does look like a nice little computer. It will weigh 1.18kg or  about 2.6 pounds, comes with a 6 cell battery that’s good for up to 7 hours, and can support up to 2GB of RAM, although it will probably only ship with 1GB. In addition to 802.11b/g WiFi the Aspire One can be customized with Bluetooth, WiMAX, or 3G features.

There’s no official word on the release date, but if the rumors are correct, this netbook should begin shipping in February.

10 replies on “Acer Aspire One with 10 inch screen gets official”

  1. i’d loved it..just got 1, 10″ color blue..,better than the big one..

  2. J & R is taking in pre-orders for $349.95 The colors to be available: black, blue and white. Funny thing that the 10″ is going to be cheaper than the 8.9″…

  3. I find it odd that the announcement speaks about Windows XP, but doesn’t mention an option of Linux. One of the things that made the original Aspire One (as well as the Asus eee) so interesting is the fact that it came with Linux, allowing the smart consumer to skip the micro$oft tax and have an operating system that is well suited to the tiny computer. I can only hope that omitting the mention of Linux doesn’t mean that Acer will stop offering it.

  4. The original Aspire One has one of the brightest, clearest screens I’ve seen on a netbook. So many netbook screens look horribly washed out. I hope the quality of the screen on the new 10″ Aspire One is similar to the original.

  5. To me, resolution is all.
What use is a bigger screen if there are the same number of pixels ?

Of course, the 6 cell battery is a plus, but I don’t see any other advantages.

    1. Agreed. Within reason, I don’t care about the physical dimensions of the screen. I do care that some windows won’t fit within the 600 pixel height. I want more pixels, not bigger ones.

      1. Same here, I’d be happy with 1024X768, the 600 pixel height is about the only complaint I have with netbooks.

    2. Hate to burst your bubble but I have 2 8.9 inch Ones and they both came with 6 cell batter. The 10 inch is not the only Acer one with the 6 cell battery.
