While Acer may be trouncing Asus in terms of global netbook shipments, Asus issued a press release today claiming that the company’s mini-laptops account for 60% of all netbooks sold in Europe. Asus netbooks are doing particularly well in Germany, france, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Russia.

Asus was the first company to bring a consumer oriented netbook to market. Asus also offers over a dozen different Eee PC models at this point, providing customers a ton of options ranging from netbooks with 7 inch displays and Intel Celeron processors to machines with 10.2 inch displays and Intel Atom chips.

But it’s also worth noting that Asus introduced the Eee PC in 2007 while most of the company’s competitors introduced their first netbooks during the summer of 2008. It’ll be interesting to see if Asus can keep its market lead in Europe in 2009 when consumers will have far more choices.

  1. The ASUS 1005HA may be small… really small but do not underestimate the power of 802.11G, 2 logical CPU’s and Windows XP Home in a 1.1Kg package!

I use my netbook on a daily basis now at home and in the office. At home I connect my little netbook to a Samsung PN63B550 63-Inch

1080p Plasma HDTV and watch streaming video from YouTube. During the day at work, I use the netbook to send instant email updates to my team members during meetings.

I ran some benchmarks and give more detail in this review: https://www.epinions.com/review/ASUS_Eee_PC_1005HA_VU1X_BK_10_1_Inch_Black_Netbook_8_5_Hour_Battery_Life/content_485480107652
