nanobook

Gizmodo published a post today revealing a “MacBook Nano,” though closer inspection leaves no doubt that it’s either the work of an industrious modder or a peddler of knock-offs.

What you’re looking at is an MSI Wind, which we reported runs OSX quite nicely back in June. There are a number of tipoffs including the LED indicators, keyboard, battery, and power brick. The nail in the coffin: the sloppily-painted Apple key.

I love my Wind, but there’s no doubt that an actual Apple netbook would sport a more polished design.

The system’s two upgradable components have been beefed up: memory has been maxed out at 2gb and a spacious 320gb hard drive added. Both are simple upgrades on the U100, and would definitely be a good idea for anyone planning on dual-booting OSX and Windows XP as the mod’s creator has done.

Will we ever see a real MacBook Nano? The bottom line may be profitability: Apple certainly isn’t going to start producing netbooks just because it’s expected. They’ll make sure that if they do enter the market, it’s on their terms and at their price point.
