I’ve never been a huge fan of wood vinyl paneling. But then again, I spent very few years of my life in the 1970s. If you think everything looks better when coated with fake wood panels, you’ve got to check out the WoodWind, a modified MSI Wind (actually an Advent 4211 which is a rebanded Wind) with wood-style vinyl coating the case and trackpad.

The vinyl gives the illusion that the netbook is carved out of wood – until you open it and see all those newfangled shiny bits. For some reason, the guy behind this mod decied the trackpad would also look better with some vinyl covering. Surprisingly, he reports that the trackpad still works.

  1. Consider it an anti-theft option. Just pick a wood-grain that matches your desk.
Now if someone comes up with a covering that makes a netbook look like an
    un-tidy lump of papers . . .
    The perfect anti-theft camo.

    1. Ah, protective coloration. This could also make it easier to recover if a coworker steals it.
